Imagine creating a piece of art so big it could be seen from space. Well, that’s what we did to launch Samsung’s new Galaxy Note in The Netherlands.

Working with Spanish street artist Notasso, renowned for creating unique original portrait art from Facebook photos using a Galaxy Note and activated in previous campaigns, we created an event for all Samsung fans. Scaling it into a massive PR and social experience as a piece of art involving one of The Netherlands’ greatest heroes – all featuring the product and features.

We put together a larger-than-life tribute to Dutch Astronaut hero Andre Kuipers, working in the International Space Station 350km above the earth.

SamsungNL’s fan base grew by 150% to just under 180,000, making it the 4th most-liked brand on Facebook in The Netherlands, and to thank all the fans that contributed we created a Facebook app enabling them to track where their portrait appeared in the mega work.

Combining the features of both a smartphone and a tablet, Samsung’s Galaxy Note represents a new category in mobile devices. It was new to the market, and our target.

It also comes with a pen, giving users new ways to capture, create and share. But we knew we couldn’t just focus on this feature alone. We needed to bring the creative power of the Galaxy Note to life, showing our audience all its new features and giving them a taste of the creative possibilities it offered, building the brand’s presence in social media (especially Facebook) in the process.

Content today is very much a social experience for users of mobile devices. Everyone is looking for new and more interesting ways to discover, create, engage with and share content. It’s a form of both self-expression and validation among their social network.

Using its pen, the Galaxy Note is a perfect device for users to express themselves by adding personal touches like drawings, handwritten messages, comments, emoticons or anything else that pops to mind.

We needed to bring this to life, in a way that was larger than life.
