Incorrect posture is a common problem in today's world, mainly because people spend large amounts of time sitting. It can lead to short and long term physical and mental discomfort. Therefore, a correct posture has to be established and trained. Wearable technology can achieve this by constantly measuring the wearer's body and giving real time feedback on incorrect posture. We developed such a device and showed in a study that it has a positive effect on posture and wellbeing.

Posturise is a smart garment that measures seated posture. If the wearer slouches, it gives haptic feedback. In this way, the wearer is made aware of their poor posture and able to correct it immediately. This has the advantage that the wearer learns how to identify correct or incorrect posture by themselves, and can develop their back and abdominal muscles, which are needed to support good posture in the long run.
The smart garment has so far been developed for female users only. The target group thus includes any woman that sits too much or wants to improve her posture for physical or psychological reasons, e.g. to reduce back or neck pain, improve her impression on others or feel more confident. We have identified women with a desk job as the main target group, however there are others, such as kindergarden teachers, who have strongly expressed their interest.
